Austin College is a private liberal arts college affiliated by covenant relationship with the Presbyterian Church (USA) and located in Sherman, Texas, about 60 miles (about 100 km) North of Dallas. The undergraduate student body of Austin College (typically referred to as "AC" by students and faculty) is limited to about 1,350. Most students are required to live on campus for the first three years in an attempt to create a close-knit community. Austin College actively promotes various study abroad programs; 70% of students study abroad during their four years at the college. The college states that it attempts to foster close interaction between students and professors via a 13:1 student to faculty ratio and an average class size of fewer than 25 students. Admission to Austin College is very competitive. The College annually receives three to four applications for each space in the freshman class. If you are academically well-prepared and would like to be a part of this living and learning community. To be considered for admission at Austin College, students should be in good academic standing, taking classes which are challenging. Your transcript should include a nice distribution of courses, in true liberal arts style. Freshmen, remember to continue to take a full load of core courses your senior year of high school. Keep in mind that a decent grade in a challenging class is more impressive than an easy A. For freshman admission, we also consider standardized test scores when making admission decisions. Austin College accepts both the ACT or SAT, and as policy we “super score.” (We will take your highest subscores from different test dates and combine them to make a highest “super score.” We feel what is important is that we see your highest potential in each sub-section, not just how you scored overall during one test session.)
